One thing is for sure. Whatever happens, Tim Sweeney will never stop whining and crying online. It is as if he’s taken on a challenge to take Musk’s throne as the saddest, least funny online personality.

I don’t think that everyone uses Ai, even with Unreal. Unless there are features that has to be used and are basically Ai components.

Tim Sweeney owns the Unreal engine, so I think their point was that Unreal itself is going to be so AI slop-coded that games made on it will need disclosures because they came out of the Unreal bucket.

Ah, I see. Well I didn’t think of that one. Yeah, that’s a valid point. If the Engine itself is vibe slopped, well then the game developed with the Engine is basically Ai assisted / partially generated.

The article states that the AI that is disclosed in steam is about art/voice made by ai that makes it into the final release(stuff that’s easy to notice). Vibe coding does not need to be disclosed.

So do developers on Steam, you literally have a filter for free games. While also having user reviews, forums, a sane refund policy, regional pricing, curators, funding Linux driver development, as well as a shopping cart (though I heard Epic Store finally put enough braincells together to get that one too).

Once again, this is done to gain marketshare

No corporation has ever done anything out of the good of its heart because they do not have hearts, you are still treating them like people instead of entities that exist exclusively to extract money from you while giving as little money to its workers as possible.

They’re doing it in lieu of actually making it a good platform to buy from.

Nah, giving the workers more money and me free games does more to make a platform viable than features. But doing shit everyone hates like filling your store with slop games that can’t be identified until you’ve already paid is a dumb decision.

Since when the fuck has AI been partisian? It sounds like he’s trying to make it partisian. In reality, everyone hates the data centers. The only thing that’s partisan-adjacent is that the Trump administration (Trump specifically) loves it, but that’s just because he’s a boomer and boomers, for some reason I do not yet understand, tend to like the shitty photo/video generative AI more than others.

People like this have two reasons to make it partisan:

        1. It’s a way for them to stay delusionally self-victimized since “AI would be a total success if it weren’t for that group of haters” and it’s convenient to make the haters the political out-group, since typically these people already view themselves as tragically oppressed politically (while somehow having all of the power and being the only oppressors themselves).
        2. If they succeed in making it partisan, that means they gain about 30% of the population as supporters via political team sports, versus 90% bipartisan hate right now.

As aggravating as this might be to hear, there is at least one state where workers unions have been pro-datacenter under the belief that the work to build them will at least bring them some contracting/construction jobs. Some states are destitute enough to accept anything, even if it’s only a short-term bandaid for their economic troubles.

Kinda the same with the new Unity? Might not be vibe coded itself, but they just redesigned it specifically so LLM agents can be plugged into it, right?

I mean to be honest every engine is going to be like that now at least partly.

I do kind of hope valve update their AI policy at some point to actually clarify what the label means. Both open source and closed source engines are vulnerable to AI code so unless you also build the engine your game might include AI code without your knowledge. So who’s responsibility is it at that point to check the little box in the store to say this game includes code made by AI?

I’ll say that on youtube, the implementation has been problematic.

There’s a channel where the creator has used a speech synthesis for long before the modern crop of AI text to speech. He still uses the same old speech synthesis, not even one of the newer models, but flagged as ‘AI’.

Conversely, blatant slop appears with zero indication. With no option to report as AI slop.

But the point is that if someone used an LLM to do some code completion, technically AI but I don’t think anyone would consider something like ‘multiply all members of this array by this other array’ to be ‘slop’ when turned into what an LLM would turn it into. There’s some point where it’s lost the plot entirely, but it is going to be relatively unlikely that folks ever give up the ‘still micromanaging, but letting an LLM bake in the very specific syntax needed’ level of AI.

On the other hand, we have people turning a total lack of idea into big, time-consuming content that requires a minute to figure out how hollow it is. It’s a continuation of what I’ll retroactively call ‘asset-slop’ where people just tossed in a bunch of existing assets, but harder to tell at a glance. Saw an ad recently for Perplexity, saying you can just ask Perplexity to make video slop and post to youtube with zero effort and make $10k/month, brazen in the worst of the worst of the AI users.

All that said, Sweeney is pretty firmly in the ‘let the slop flow’ end of the AI spectrum, so screw him.
